Turkey defends Title
Turkey successfully defended its title at the World Team Championship
3-Cushion in Viersen. In an highly dramatic final Semih Saygier
and Tayfun Tasdemir defeated first tme finalist Belgium by 4:3
sets. Semih Sayginer started of with a 3:1 win over Frédéric
Caudron. When Tayfun Tasdemir a long time later reduced his deficit
versus Peter de Backer to 1:2 Turkey had clinched gold because
they had an unbeatable advantage of 16 points. But the Belgiums
smelled already the taste of success when Peter de Backer missed
three match balls. To the great joy of the numerous Turkish fans
in Viersen Tasdemir made his fourth setball and secured the title
once again for Turkey.

Belgium reach the final of the world champ in Viersen for
the first time ever. There they will meet defending champion Turkey.
Matchwinner for the Begians in the semi-final versus Spain
has been Peter de Backer, who beat Alfonso Legazpi by 3:1 sets.
Although Frédéric Caudron lost to Daniel Sanchez
by 2:3, Belgium hat a 5:4 set advantage.
Türkey defeated France in the round of the last four.
Semih Sayginer has beaten Jérémy Bury by 3:1. When
Tayfun Tasdemir equalized versus Jean-Christophe Roux to 2:2,
Turkey was leading unbeatable by 5:3 sets.
