Sweden clinched the Threecushion crown in Viersen for a record fifth time, beating the Netherlands in an encounter of highest quelity. The 2005 final between Sweden and the Netherlands was a rematch of the 1999
and the 2000 final. In 1999 it was the Netherlands dominating, while one year later Sweden celebrated. So who would get the edge this year.
Top players Torbjorn Blomdahl and Dick Jaspers delivered a great fight, everybody of them staying at the heaels of the other. Jaspers took the early lead by winning the first set, but the next two went to the
Swedish number one.
At this time it looked as if the gold medals could be already handed over to the Swedes, as Michael Nilsson stormed into a 2-0 lead versus Jean-Paul de Bruijn. But fortunes changed in the third, when Nilsson missed his chances and made his opponent stronger and stronger. As everything seemed possible again, this gave Jaspers an extra motivation and helped him to equal on the other table. But Nilsson found back some composure and finished off the fourth set with a run of three, which gave the scandinavians the title. Sweden could not be caught by sets, why the final set between Blomdahl and Jaspers was not started.

The finale is starting: Netherlands versus Sweden

The German team was beated by Netherlands in a one man show of Dick Jaspers. The Dutch single worldchampion finish his match versus Martin Horn in a brilliant manner. After each of the acteurs has won one set, Jaspers destroyed all title ambitions of the German team by finishing his match with a run of 14 points in set 3 and with 15:4 in 3 innings in set 4. The Dutch team was leading by 57:26 in caramboles. This difference Christian Rudolph could not egalize. Jean-Paul de Bruijn won with a set balance of 2:1.

Germany and Belgium only reached the bronce medal places.

The first team arrived the finale in Viersen: Sweden.

Torbjörn Blomdahl from Sweden beated the Belgium's no. 1 Eddy Merckx without leaving him any chance. With an avarage of 3.214 Blomdahl played the best match ever seen in Viersen. He won by 15:2 in 3, 15:5 in 6 and 15:6 in 5 innings.
Michael Nilsson has won the first set in his match versus Eddy Leppens, so that Belgium could not reach a better set balance the Sweden. This match was ended by 2:1 for Leppens.
