In a quite quick final Sweden defended its title successfully and was crowned World Champion for a record sixth time. Torbjörn Blomdahl was playing n a class of his own, while Christian Rudolph had to ay tribute tothe energy he left in his semi-final match immediately before. Blomdahl won the encounter clearly in straight sets by 15-3, 15-4 and 15-4, thus underlining once more what worldclass player he is.

Therefore it did not help the Germans that on the other table Mrtin Horn cruised into a 2-1 lead versus Michael Nillson after trailing already 0-1. When they just started their fourth set the final was decided on the other table. So the 20th edition of this World Championship and the 17th which took lace in the beautiful "Festhalle" in the German city of Viersen found its deserved winner - Sweden.

2.30 pm

It is defending champion Sweden versus the host nation Germany in the final of the 2006 World Team Champioship Thre-Cushion in Viersen. The Germans put on a great match in their semi-final versus Turkey, allthough it was much closer than the result looks. In close sets both Germans had to watch setballs of their opponents from their chair. The no. 1 players Christian Rudolph and Semih Sayginer, regarded as a slight favourite, showed a great match. The first set was a very close affair and Rudolph just managed to get the better end. Then the German started set 2 with a run of 12 points. But Sayginer managed to et back and went 14-13 ahead. Rudolph showed good nerves still winning this set. Again he strted off the third set with a run of eight, clinching the match in three straight sets by 15-11.

Martin Horn started off in great style, leading clearly in the opener and looking like the winner. When Adnan Yüksel faught back it was too late. Horn won the first set in eight innings and did the same in the second. Yüksel got one back, winning the only set for Turkey, but the fourth set was not started. Because of Rudolph's clear 3-0 win Germany was already the winner at this moment.

While the Germans won their quarter-final on saturday on their fighting spirit they got through the semi by their playing skills.

Thanks to reat playing Michael Nilsson five times champion Sweden also reach the final. He managed to beat Raymond Burgman in three straight sets. At that time also Torbjörn Blomdahl lead Dick aspers by 2-0, so that the match was decided and did not have to be continued.
